The suspension keeps the wheels in contact with the road and the car under control: shock absorbers, springs, control arms, bushings, wheel bearings, tie rods and anti-roll bar links. In a suspension check we inspect these parts with the car on the lift, looking for play, leaks and wear. The check costs 16 € per car, and afterwards you know what needs replacing now and what can wait.
Wheel alignment – also called axle alignment or tracking – means measuring the toe and camber angles of the wheels and setting them to the values the car’s manufacturer specifies. With the alignment out, the car pulls to one side, the steering wheel sits off-centre when driving straight and the tyres wear on one edge. Wheel alignment costs from 51 €; we tell you the exact price before we start.
It often makes sense to have the suspension checked before an alignment, because on a car with a worn bushing or tie rod the settings will not hold. If the check shows that a part needs replacing, we tell you the price first and only do the work with your OK; repairs are charged at the car repair labour rate (46 € per hour for a car).
